WPD FAQ: Switches, Downloads, Defaults, and Problems
These answers separate documented WPD behavior from assumptions that need testing on your own PC.
Common questions
What does an On or Off switch mean?
Read the named setting. A switch can refer to a collection feature, permission, or service, so On is not universally the most private choice.
Is the download an installer?
No. The supplied ZIP contains WPD.exe and supporting files. Extract the complete package before opening it.
Does Default restore every previous change?
No. It is not a personal backup, and it does not reinstall removed Windows Store apps. Restore recorded values or use the appropriate recovery path.
Will privacy settings stop every network connection?
No. App permissions, diagnostic settings, and firewall rules address different things. A blocked list does not prove complete absence of data transmission.
What should I do when a feature stops working?
Identify the last relevant change, reverse that change, and retest the feature. Avoid blanket security disabling or repeated global resets.
